Nun the Wiser

I was in Harvey Nicks today doing a spot of styling when I had a rather curious experience. While at the till pulling sunglasses, I looked to my right to spot a nun - a lovely wee bespestacled nun wearing comfy shoes and tan tights. Not a particularly odd sight -although admittedly one often doesn’t see a bride of Christ in the accessories department - until I panned down to see her carrying three Juicy Couture purses. And then she spoke. “Do you have any of these in blue?” she asked the sales girl. It made me wonder if there was a velour tracksuit under that habit. Jeez - you just never know these days. :)

Shopping patterns and clothes obsessions

Looking through my ridiculously overstuffed wardrobe, as I have been lately, I have noticed a few shopping patterns or clothes obsessions that I seem to have. The problem being that whilst I dearly love all of the clothes in my wardrobe, and the ones hanging on the extra rail in my spare room/ office, Some of them don’t get that much wear perhaps because of my lifestyle or perhaps because I have so much of the same.

Jackets - I was amazed to count up all of my jackets and find that I have 20 jackets ranging from causal and denim to tailored, vintage and 1 designer one by Jaeger, this picture shows just a few. Is this too many? I think that with the tailored jackets, I may still be living in the past, when I worked in an office and needed lots of work clothes. These days I work from home so only occasionally get dressed up for client meetings.
My biggest frustration with winter is that I don’t get to wear my jackets as the weather isn’t warm enough. Unfortunately I have little in the way of stylish winter alternatives or coats. I have also bought quite a few jackets second hand. Tailored jackets are often some of the best buys in the charity or second hand shop so I just can’t resist buying them. Roll on the spring and summer so I can wear my jackets every day.

Black and White - I love striking, bold and eye catching clothes, so perhaps this is why I seem to keep buying black and white. Generally I wear my black and white clothes quite a bit, I just always feel good in them. I do have quite a few other colourful and patterned clothes as well.

Scarves - some of my scarves are presents from my mum, who I have probably inherited my scarf addiction from. I spend a bit of time most mornings selecting a scarf to wear but often take it off after about half an hour. Unfortunately at this time in my life, when I spend a lot of time carrying a toddler around, they just aren’t that practical to wear.

So does anyone else find themselves drawn to buying the same sorts of clothes all the time? If so what are your clothes obsessions?

Love for Miss Me Jeans

It may not be possible to have too many pairs of great jeans. That’s my conclusion after finding Miss Me. This is the must have jean for every girl that loves expensive designer jeans of high quality, but at an affordable high quality price that won’t break your bank. Here are some of my favorite styles.

yhst-37865574437687_2095_11238607
The Miss Me Jean Glamour & Glitz Boot Cut has bead and crystal-embellished pockets and silver hardware. These are the ultimate in glamour jeans! They also have cool metallic stitching on the side seams, front pockets, and the back yoke. Made from 98% cotton, 2% Elastin, these jeans will gently hug your every curve.

yhst-37865574437687_2094_13427597

For the classic look of vintage handcrafted jeans, you couldn’t do better than the Miss Me Jean Carmel Wide Pick Stitch Boot Cut. The wide pick stitch detail along the front pockets, back yoke, and side seams gives these jeans a classic beauty. They’re also detailed with slight distressing and whiskering. The pockets are decorated with large, clear crystals on each side. They’d go perfectly with a classic white blouse.

yhst-37865574437687_2093_790862

If you prefer your “glam” to be a little darker, try the Miss Me Jean V24 Gothic Glam Boot Cut. They would look perfect with a lace-detailed blouse. The flap pocket detailing has a rhinestone cross that is also embellished with studs and studded crystals. They look broken-in already with fading and whiskering on the legs.

yhst-37865574437687_2093_59488280

The Miss Me Jean Deep Dark Fallen Angel Wing Boot Cut jeans were featured in the March 2010 issue of InStyle Magazine. The back pockets have off-white stitched angel wings that are embellished with crystal studs. The back pockets are also decorated with large crystal studs at the corners. The rest of the hardware is  metallic, and these dark blue jeans have minor distressing and whiskering in front. Wear with a figure-hugging black cashmere turtleneck and turn heads wherever you go.

yhst-37865574437687_2097_51468121

OK, I’m not going to lie: the white jean look can be difficult to pull off. Just remember that white jeans, especially beautifully embellished ones like the Miss Me Jean Snow Silver Cross Boot Cut are going to steal the attention, so you need to keep it simple up top with a plain tee or blouse, preferably in a neutral color like gray, navy, or black. These jeans are eggshell white and have silver stitching and rhinestone rivets detailing the back pockets. All the stitching is done in gray. Wear these, and you will be center of attention

Inspiration for the Modern Bride

The wedding season is fast approaching and brides to-be are on the search for the perfect dress, shoes and accessories. Some brides-to-be spend months searching for the perfect dress. Carrie Bradshaw’s entire wedding plan was thrown into a tailspin because of her over-the-top Vivienne Westwood dress. I was lucky – the second dress I tried on I chose and purchased on the spot. It was a “Saketini” gown made famous by San Francisco couturier, Colleen Quen. Today there are many options whether you are having a grand vineyard estate wedding in Napa Valley or a simple civil ceremony at City Hall. There are styles to suit everyonefrom the classic bride to the bohemian and fashionista alike.

Perfectly suited for a civil ceremony or glamourous penthouse affair, this fitted ivory ribbed-crepe dress is classic with a twist detail at the shoulder. The short sleeve RM by Roland Mouret Aphrodite twist-detail dress ($1,545 at Net-a-Porter) features a low back, a slim fitting skirt and split at the back. Most women either love or hate veils. If you are the type to wear a veil, Lanvin makes an exquisite glass pearl-embellished tulle veil ($1,070 at Net-a-Porter). Pricey, yes, but you can save it as a family heirloom for your daughters. The Blanche veil attaches with a silver-tone hair comb and is embellished with 100% Swarovski glass beads. Exquisite! With a the fitted and short skirt on the Mouret dress you’ll want to have a pair of very special shoes on your feet. How about these satin Christian Louboutin Miss ChaCha satin platform sling backs? They are available for $945.00 at Barneys New York. As you glidearound the dance floor or pose for photos, wouldn’t it be lovely to havethis Lanvin Silk-satin Drawstring Pochette ($770 at Net-a-Porter) on your arm? Grace your ears with a pair of Ben-Amun Crystal Framed Pearl Drop Earrings ($188 at Max and Chloe). These shimmering drop pearl earrings feature two lustrous pearls and are surrounded by Austrian crystals. Before you walk down the aisle spritz on Christian Dior’s Miss Dior Cherie Blooming Bouquet ($88.00 at YesStyle). Containing the essence of the original Miss Dior fragrance is has notes of mandarin orange, peony and musk, you will start life with your new husband smelling sublime.

Worlds Collide: Billy Corgan and Jessica Simpson?

Photo from fOTOGLIF

Recently there have been rumors that bubbly pop star Jessica Simpson and bald former Smashing Pumpkin Billy Corgan have been, how you say? Together. Here’s what’s known: Corgan helped Simpson write the theme song for her new show “The Price of Beauty.”

He told Rolling Stone magazine, “Sometimes people just like being around each other, and good things come out of that. My goal in life is to love whoever I think is worth loving, and I think if people knew her like I knew her, they would love her like I do. It’s really simple.”

He also said, “The stuff that I’ve seen doesn’t have any bearing to the reality that I’m in. It’s like being in a cartoon. It has nothing to do with what’s really going on or how I feel.”

Alrighty, then. Whatever the type of relationship the two have, whether it’s friendship, romance, or a simple working relationship, it is safe to say that Corgan is being more gentlemanly about the whole thing than John Mayer, who shared (according to Simpson) Too Much Information about their sex life when they were together.

Corgan’s relationship with Simpson may be bewildering on a lot of levels, but one thing fans can be sure of is his continuing hatred for Courtney Love, whom he forbids to release any songs they worked on together. About Love, he said, “I have no interest in supporting her in any way, shape or form. You can’t throw enough things down the abyss with a person like that.

Mo’Nique’s Oscar Flower Meaning

82nd Annual Academy Awards - Press Room

Actress wore royal blue and a gardenia in her hair for the 82nd annual Academy Awards ceremony Sunday for a reason: Hattie McDaniel. McDaniel was the first African American to be nominated for an Academy Award for her role in the epic movie Gone With The Wind. She won, and wore a blue dress and a gardenia in her hair when she accepted her Oscar in 1940. Mo’Nique won the Academy Award for best supporting actress for her work in the movie Precious.

The actress also gave a pre-Oscar interview to Barbara Walters, and there were hints that the two did not get along that well.  When Mo’Nique was on “The View,” Walters referred to Mo’s newborn twins as “creatures.” It wasn’t clear what she meant by that, but she did take it back ultimately.

Mo’Nique apparently made Walters jump through some hoops to get the pre-Oscar sit-down, with “very specific hair and makeup demands.” She also granted the interview at someplace other than her house. Walters’ often interviews stars at their home. But according to Walters, the interview went swimmingly, saying, “There was nothing about her that was rude. It’s a wonderful, funny interview. She couldn’t have been more open. If you’re not happy, you don’t answer those questions. I can’t remember when we did an interview in someone’s house.”
